
SCHOLARSHIP POLICY
Effective 1/23/2008
There will be two scholarships awarded each year,
one for CPWM and one for College/Trade School. If
the CPWM Scholarship is not awarded, then two
scholarships may be awarded for College/Trade
School.
The CPWM Scholarship will be a maximum of $3,500 to
be paid in increments upon successful completion of
each series with proof of payment. The
College/Trade School Scholarship will be $3,000 paid
upon proof of acceptance to an accredited
college/trade school for a High School Senior and
upon award for a current college attendee.
For consideration of a CPWM Scholarship, an
applicant must be a member in good standing of the
PWANJ, a United States citizen, and a resident of
New Jersey. The applicant must submit a letter
for consideration with a brief history of his/her
Public Works career including future goals. Two
letters of recommendation shall be submitted from
current PWANJ members holding the CPWM
designation. The recipient of the CPWM Scholarship
must register at the beginning of the next available
session and must complete the program within two
years. If the CPWM Scholarship is not utilized,
the money remains in the general treasury.
For consideration of a College/Trade School
Scholarship, an applicant must be a High School
Senior who is college or trade school bound or a
current student attending either a two year or four
year accredited college or technical school. The
applicant must have an immediate family member
(Mother, Father, Grandmother, Grandfather, Brother
or Sister) who is an active member in good standing
of the PWANJ, must be a United States citizen, and a
resident of New Jersey. The applicant must
submit an essay about his/her present and future
goals and how Public Works and/or other service
oriented organizations affected his/her decision to
attend school, and how the scholarship money will be
utilized. Two letters of reference/recommendation
shall be submitted from a teacher, guidance
counselor, or employer. Letters from family
members will not be accepted. The recipient of
the College/Trade School Scholarship must maintain a
GPA of 2.5 or higher in High School or a GPA of 3.0
or higher is College/Trade School. Proof of GPA is
to be included with the application.
A Scholarship Award may be granted only once. Upon
receipt of an award an individual is no longer
eligible for future consideration.
All applications must be submitted in their
entirety. Incomplete applications will not be
considered.
Each Region shall notify its members of the
availability of the scholarships and the deadline
for submissions and direct them to the website. An
e-mail shall be sent to all members notifying them
of the availability of the scholarships and the

website. In addition, for the CPWM Scholarship,
one of the Executive Board Officers shall attend the
orientation with Rutgers to announce the opportunity
to apply.
The application deadline shall be March 15 of each
year and the award recipients will be advised by
April 1 of each year. Notification is to be made
to the unsuccessful applicants at the same time the
awards are announced.
