SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

Effective 1/23/2008

There will be two scholarships awarded each year, one for CPWM and one for College/Trade School.   If the CPWM Scholarship is not awarded, then two scholarships may be awarded for College/Trade School.

The CPWM Scholarship will be a maximum of $3,500 to be paid in increments upon successful completion of each series with proof of payment.      The College/Trade School Scholarship will be $3,000 paid upon proof of acceptance to an accredited college/trade school for a High School Senior and upon award for a current college attendee.

For consideration of a CPWM Scholarship, an applicant must be a member in good standing of the PWANJ, a United States citizen, and a resident of New Jersey.    The applicant must submit a letter for consideration with a brief history of his/her Public Works career including future goals.   Two letters of recommendation shall be submitted from current PWANJ members holding the CPWM designation.   The recipient of the CPWM Scholarship must register at the beginning of the next available session and must complete the program within two years.    If the CPWM Scholarship is not utilized, the money remains in the general treasury.

For consideration of a College/Trade School Scholarship, an applicant must be a High School Senior who is college or trade school bound or a current student attending either a two year or four year accredited college or technical school.   The applicant must have an immediate family member (Mother, Father, Grandmother, Grandfather, Brother or Sister) who is an active member in good standing of the PWANJ, must be a United States citizen, and a resident of New Jersey.      The applicant must submit an essay about his/her present and future goals and how Public Works and/or other service oriented organizations affected his/her decision to attend school, and how the scholarship money will be utilized.   Two letters of reference/recommendation shall be submitted from a teacher, guidance counselor, or employer.   Letters from family members will not be accepted.     The recipient of the College/Trade School Scholarship must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in High School or a GPA of 3.0 or higher is College/Trade School.   Proof of GPA is to be included with the application.

A Scholarship Award may be granted only once.   Upon receipt of an award an individual is no longer eligible for future consideration.

All applications must be submitted in their entirety.   Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Each Region shall notify its members of the availability of the scholarships and the deadline for submissions and direct them to the website.  An e-mail shall be sent to all members notifying them of the availability of the scholarships and the deadline for submissions and direct them to the website.     In addition, for the CPWM Scholarship, one of the Executive Board Officers shall attend the orientation with Rutgers to announce the opportunity to apply.

The application deadline shall be March 15 of each year and the award recipients will be advised by April 1 of each year.     Notification is to be made to the unsuccessful applicants at the same time the awards are announced.
