Clean Communities
MEMORANDUM
Attn: Public Works Directors From: William G. Dressel, Jr. ,Executive Director Date: December 27, 2002 Re: Clean Communities Measure Becomes Law on December 20, 2002
The League’s hard fought efforts to insure the re-establishment of the Clean Communities and Recycling program culminated on December 20th when Gov. James McGreevey signed the measure into law. For many months and at every turn, the League was in the forefront of lobbying the Legislature to renew funding of this widely, successful program. With only a few days remaining in 2002, the Governor’s signature on A-2069/S-1373 is assurance that municipalities and counties will receive their Clean Communities funding by summer 2003. The funds go to municipalities and counties as direct State grants for litter abatement and recycling programs. The League commends all of the sponsors and the Legislature for their determination to continue this perfect example of a public/private partnership. The signing of this bill into law represents a major policy initiative that will benefit all of New Jersey.
