President's Message
Welcome to
our website.
Upon being
elected President of the Public Works Association of New Jersey it is my
honor to carry forward a tradition of teamwork and dedication of those
individuals who make up the Public Works Association of New Jersey.
I first
want to congratulate the recent graduates of the CPWM program and wish
them the best as they pursue their careers in the Public Works field. I
cannot stress the importance of working together, calling upon your
classmates, your neighboring Public Works Departments, and the countless
others who serve throughout the State of New Jersey. Please join the
association and become involved, learn from others and become part of
the team of dedicated members.
I
encourage each and every member to attend your region meetings and to
take an active role to ensure that our association continues to grow. I
am sure every one of us knows of a person or persons who work within a
Public Works Department who may not be a member. I ask that you reach
out and encourage them to join and to help them better understand the
need to belong.
The PWANJ
today more than ever needs to continue to grow and to ensure that we
stay united in our efforts as we go forward in 2009. As 2008 quickly
comes to a close we all are faced with the economic downturn and now
even more so must work together. We all read of the “hard times” that
we are faced with. The budgetary problems we all face, the decline of
State Aid to our counties and municipalities and how far behind the
funding of our pension system is getting each day. It is more important
then ever to continue to be strong and be prepared to take action should
it become necessary.
Your
Executive Board members and the various committees are doing the best
they can to stay on top of all of these pending issues and any new ones
that may surface but it is important that we all be constantly looking
out as we go forward. Do not hesitate to call your region officers,
another member or the executive board members if there is an issue that
concerns you or an issue that will affect us as public employees. Each
one of us as members are the eyes and ears and each of us must look and
listen so that we are ready to face any and all challenges should they
surface.
Finally in
closing I want to tell each and every one of you that the success of the
association is measured by its strength in membership. We all must keep
up the good work and most of all stay involved.
Keith
